Activities from 1982 to 1991

In Year 1982

• 1st decade of “World Environment Day” was celebrated on 5thJune by convening a general public meeting at Phulbani.
• Supported people’s workshop on “Forest and Environment Conservation” organized by local institutions at different places in Phulbani and Dhenkanal districts.
• Submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister of Odisha (Orissa) for creating Department of Environment in the State.

In Year 1983

• Supported the people’s workshop on “Forest Protection” organized synchronizing with the World Forest Day celebration on 21st March at Paburia, a remote tribal village in Phulbani district.
• Supported the people’s workshop on “Forest Conservation” held at Kesharpur, Nayagarh district. This was organized by Brikhya ‘O’ Jibara Bandhu Parishad, Kesharpur, Nayagarh.
• A seminar on “Environment and Natural Resources Management” was organized at Bhubaneswar on 4th and 5th June to celebrate the 11th World Environment Day. This was collaborated by ‘Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society of Orissa”, Bhubaneswar.

In Year 1984

• Sponsored the seminar “Tribals and Forest Ecosystem” organized at Koraput coinciding with the celebration of World Forest Day on 21st March. This was organized by the Koraput District Environment Society and DAV College, Koraput.
• Supported people’s workshop on “Forest Protection and Abatement of Alcoholism” organized at Ujaleswar in Ganjam District. This was organized by N.N.S. of Khemundi College, Digapahandi.
• Organised a workshop on “Environmental Conservation” at Berhampur on 4 – 6th June to celebrate the 12th World Environment Day. This was collaborated by the Rotary Club of Berhampur Mid –Town, Berhampur.
• Organised a mass mobilization campaign for “Wildlife (Black Buck) Conservation” on 18 -19th November at Buguda in Ganjam District.

In Year 1985

• Sponsored the conference on “Environment, World Understanding and Peace” held at Berhampur on 24th February. This was organized by the Rotary Club of Berhampur Mid-Town, Berhampur.
• Organised a workshop on “Forest & Environment Conservation” on 21st March at Angisingi, a remote village in Nayagarh District to celebrate the World Forest Day. This was collaborated by Brikhya ‘O’ Jibara Bandhu, Kesharpur, Nayagarh.
• Organised a State level photographic exhibition on “Nature, Environment and Wildlife” on 19th May at Bhubaneswar.
• Organized the national seminar on “Biosphere Reserves” on 21-22nd May at Similpal, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district. This was collaborated By the Mayurbhanj District Environment Society.
• Celebrated the 13th World Environment Day at Katapalli, a remote village in Sambalpur district on 5th June by arranging an exhibition and a public meeting. This was collaborated by the Sambalpur District Environment Society.
  
  In Year 1986
• Organised a ‘Snake Show, Exhibition, Film Show and Public Meeting’ for school children to celebrated the World Forest Day, on 21st March at Berhampur. This was collaborated by the Indian Society of Wildlife Research, Calcutta, Mahendra Tanaya Nature Club of Government Girls’ High School, Berhampur and the Rotary Club of Berhampur, Mid –Town, Berhampur.
• Organised the national conference on “Natural Heritage Conservation with special emphasis on Chilika Lagoon” at Berhampur (Ganjam) during 4th -6th June to celebrate the 14th World Environment Day. This was collaborated by the Rotary Club of Berhampur Mid-Town, Berhampur (Ganjam).
• Organised the following activities to celebrate the 1st “National Environment Month” (National Environment Awareness Campaign) during Nov-December.
          I. Training programme on “Environment Education” for school teachers on 16th
             December. This was coordinated by the Centre for Environment Education, Ahmadabad
             and collaborated by the Rotary Club of Berhampur Mid-Town, Berhampur.
         II. Symposium on “Roll of Voluntary Organisations in Environment Conservation “at Burla
             on 23rd November. This was collaborated by the Rotary Club of Burla.
        III. Essay and debate competitions and lecture programmes on “Environment” for school
             children in 10 centres at Berhampur covering the whole of Environment Month (19th
             Nov. – 18th Dec) . This was coordinated by Environment Services Group, New Delhi
             and collaborated by Bigyan Prachar Samiti, Berhampur.
  
  In Year 1987
• Organised a citizen’s meet and public meeting highlighting the theme of the International Year 1987, “Shelter for the Homeless” to celebrate the 15th World Environment Day, at Berhampur on 5th June.
• Organised the following activities to celebrate the 2nd “National Environment Month” (National Environment Awareness Campaign) during Nov-December. This was coordinated by the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi.
          I. “Essay, elocution and art competition” for university, college and school students at
              Bhubaneswar.
          II. Song, poster competition, exhibition and guest Lectures for school students at 10
              centres covering the whole of the Ganjam district.
        III. “Eco-development Camp for Women” at three villages (Boroda, Genguti and Jannhitaila)
              in Dhenkanal district. This was collaborated by Women’s Polytechnic, Dhenkanal.
        IV. District level workshop on “Environment and Similipal Forest” for people’s
             representatives at Bisoi in Mayurbhanj district. This was collaborated by the
             Mayurbhanj District Environment Society.
  
  In Year 1988
• Organised a public meeting and competitions to celebrate the “World Forest Day” on 21st March at Digapahandi (Ganjam). This was collaborated by Centre for Environmental Research and Extension, Berhampur (Ganjam).
• Organised a workshop on the “State of Art Report on Environment of Orissa” to celebrate the 16th World Environment Day at Bhubaneswar. This was collaborated by the Centre for Youth and Social Development and Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar.
• Organised the following activities to celebrate the 3rd National Environment Month (National Environment Awareness Campaign) during November-December.
          I. Women’s (housewives) camp and children’s science exhibition on “Environment” at
             Paralakhemundi (Ganjam) .
         II. Women’s (housewives) camp on “Environment” at Nuapada (Ganjam).
        III. Workshop on “Forest Conservation” for rural tribal people at Dukura (Mayurbhanj).
  
  In Year 1989
• Organised a symposium on “Sustainable Development and Environment Issues of Common Interest” to celebrate the 17th World Environment Day at Bhubaneswar. This collaborated by Vikash and Orissa Union of Journalists.
• Conducted a research scheme on “State of Environment and Flora of Orissa: An Inventory of Economic Plants” conducted by Dr. G. Panigrahi (Emeritus Scientist) through Orissa Environmental Society.
  
  In Year 1990
• Celebrated the 4th National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC-1989-90) by holding the following programmes :
          I. Symposium on NEAC theme “Conserving our Water Resources” for legislators,
             environment and nature lovers at Bhubaneswar on 17th April. This was collaborated by
             the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha and the Regional Science Centre,
             Bhubaneswar.
         II. Padayatra and workshop at Matiagada, Jamba, Jashipur, Dardara and Aktali villages at
             the foot hills of the Similipal Forest on 6-10 May on “Protect Forest for Water
             Conservation”. This was collaborated by the Society for Development Action, Baripada.
• Celebrated the 18th World Environment Day. This was organized by State Development of Science, Technology and Environment. The Orissa Environmental Society collaborated with it.
• Collborated the symposium on “Environmental Priorities of Orissa”. This was organized by Orissa Chapter of National Environment Science Academy.
• Organised an all India Workshop on “Co-ordinated project on Cost Reduction Techniques and Low Cost Material for Rural Housing” on 17th December. This was collaborated by the State Building Centre and the Regional Science Centre at the Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar.
  
  In Year 1991
• Organised a seminar-cum-padayatra-cum-workshop on “Mahendragiri Natural Forest Heritage” at Paralakhemundi and Mahendragiri hilltop to celebrate of 5th National Environment Awareness Campaign (1990-91).
• Organised a Public Hearing on Environment & Development in collaboration with the People’s Commission on Environment & Development (New Delhi) at the Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar on 1st May.
• Organised a symposium on “Protection & Conservation of Natural Heritage(s) of Orissa : Problems and Solutions “, in association with Council of Professional Social Workers and Regional Science Centre at latter’s place to celebrate the 19th World Environment Day.
